Building Your Debt Freedom Plan

Alms giving is making donations to the poor and needy as an act of charity.  Our giving can be money, food, clothing, items, etc.  This is another area where we as Christians help God in establish His covenant.  When we give to the poor, God says that we lend to the Lord and He will reward us for it.  Below are other facts about giving alms:

God does not want us to be boastful in our giving.  Giving just to be seen or acknowledged by others.

  • Rather he prefers we give secretly.  Although you give secretly, God will reward you openly.
  • When we boast, God cancels His reward, because we would have gotten the praise of men instead.
  • God does not look at alms giving as tithes, seed or offerings.  He considers this type of giving to be a loan to Himself.  God ensures you receive back the amount you gave.

Proverbs 19:17 (KJV)

17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

Matthew 6:1-4 (KJV)

1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Proverbs 22:9 (KJV)

He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Proverbs 19:17 (KJV)

17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
